Speeding Fines To Go Up 50 per cent?

Speeding Fines To Go Up 50 per cent?

Speeding motorists should face an increased penalty of £90 up from £60 – the government proposes as it launches a consultation on the subject.

Not wearing a seatbelt and using a mobile phone whilst driving would also incur a £90 penalty.

If the proposed fines are implemented, it is estimated that the Treasury will receive an extra £33.5 million a year.

Transport Minister Mike Penning said that current fines imply that the offences are “minor”.

The government is seeking the views of the public on this matter via the Department of Transport website: https://consultation.dft.gov.uk/dft/2012-25/consult_view
